UGGC Avocats, counsel to BPI France in the context of a €14.5 million fundraising from the company PILI

UGGC Avocats, one of France’s leading independent law firms and a multidisciplinary business law firm, acted as counsel to Bpifrance, an investor in a new round of financing by the biotech company PILI, a pioneer in the development of renewable colours.

The French biotech company produces bio-based dyes and pigments that reduce the environmental footprint of the colour industry. Thanks to its hybrid processes combining industrial fermentation and green chemistry, the company offers an ecological and competitive alternative to petrochemical dyes and pigments: today, 99% of colours are produced from fossil resources.

In particular, PILI proposes to replace petroleum-based indigo with a high-performance biosourced indigo that reduces dependence on oil and cuts the CO2 emissions linked to its production by more than 50%.

With more than €30 million raised since its creation, Pili aims to produce its first tonne of biobased indigo by 2024.

The UGGC Avocats team that assisted Bpifrance is composed of Charles-Emmanuel Prieur (partner), Laurie Durand (associate) and Rebecca El Hakim (associate).

Pili was advised by Altaïr Avocats, whose team was composed of Philippe Beauregard (partner), Chiara Mascarello (associate) and Elise Yvart (associate).
