A look back at the seminar organized by the HEAD School (Hautes Etudes Appliquées du Droit): “Where does the second level of jurisdiction stand? What happens to appeals?

On Thursday February 19, the HEAD Research Laboratory, under the direction of Professor Thierry Rambaud, brought together academics, judges and practitioners for a brainstorming session on the future of appeal proceedings, against a backdrop of far-reaching procedural reform.

Clémence Lemétais d’Ormesson, a partner at UGGC Avocats, took part in this round table, alongside :

  • Véronique Bost, Conseiller, Paris Court of Appeal, Social Division
  • Mr Vincent Gorlier, Doctor of Law
  • Mrs Anne-Sophie Milard Lafitte, Doctor of Law

Discussions addressed the delicate issue of the draft “Rivage” decree, and provided a pragmatic overview of developments and issues in appeal proceedings, with a comparative law approach based on practices in Common Law countries.

Discussions with the students and professionals present confirmed just how central the question of the second level of jurisdiction remains to guaranteeing the efficiency, accessibility and quality of justice.

Many thanks to the organizers, in particular Anne Vandeville and HEAD, and to the participants for the quality of the discussions.
