The International Union of Lawyers (UIA ) has over 2,000 individual members and 200 bars, federations and associations in over 110 countries. It also brings legal professionals , judges, teachers and law students.
Invested , the UIA has, since 1971 , a non- governmental organization (NGO ) in special consultative status with the United Nations and the Council of Europe. It is represented in the main headquarters of the United Nations (New York , Geneva and Vienna). The UIA is also a member of the International Criminal Tribunal Advisory Council for the former Yugoslavia.
Jean- Jacques Uettwiller was elected October 31, 2013 , at the Congress of the International Union of lawyers , First Vice-President , for taking UIA presidency in 2015.
